Mc.Delivery

I just received a promotion brochure from Mc. Donalds regarding Mc.Delivery. It promotes one phone number for the nationwide order and delivers to your doorstep.

After looking into the detail of the brochure, I found out that all the information are written firstly, English, then Malay and then Chinese.

Turn into the second page, and see the instruction on how to order. A few simple step written there.

1. Choose anything from the menu.
2. First pick up the phone and dial the number of McDelivery.
3. Press 1 for English or 2 for Bahasa Malaysia.
4. and so on……

Looking into the instruction number 3, some questions come out from my mind….

1.Is the Mc.Delivery service specially design only for English or Malay Speaking people?
2.what about Cina ‘A Pek’ and 'India ‘Aci’?
3.Cina ‘A Pek’ and India ‘Aci’ who dunno both English and Malay language are not suppose to order from the service of Mc.Delivery?????

The marketing team may neglected the purchasing power form Cina ‘A Pek’ and India ‘Aci’.

Let’s take an exemption: (below figure are taken from The World Factbook by CIA)

* Total population for Malaysia ( July 2005 est.) : 23,953,136
* ‘A Pek’ plus ‘ Aci’ who are willing to purchase from Mc.Donalds via Mc. Delivery are 1% ( very conservative figure).
* So, the amount is : 239,531 ppl
* Let say, they are willing to purchase the cheapest item –Apple Pie ( RM 2.50)
* Potential turnover is 239,531 X RM 2.50 = RM 598,827.50
* Which also mean, the potential sales lost are at least RM 598 827.50 if ONLY 1% of ‘A Pek’ and ‘Aci’ are willing to buy the cheapest item from the menu but could not understand the instruction from the automated phone answering system.

Luckily, there are some ‘call agent’ are prepared by Mc.Donalds to ease out the problem.

Personally , I suggest at least a few language must install into automatic phone answering system like the major cell phone service provider in the country - at lease English, Chinese, Malay and Indian Language.
